It all came to me when I first visited my friend’s accommodation for the first time to see if he was settling in well and to get an idea of what he was up to in his day to day life. I always knew he wasn’t the most independent when it came to the usual chores or cooking but what I saw that night was beyond my lowest expectations.
He had bought Pasta for himself; a staple and well known saviour amongst students everywhere, known to have the lowest technical difficulty in terms of preparation in return for a great tasting dish that anyone could conjure.
Except for some. It took him just half an hour to absolutely ridicule everything Italian tradition stood for which isn’t even the worst of his kitchen crimes. I wish I could say that he’s a stand alone case but the truth is that we are amongst a generation of human beings who have never been given any proper training or education in terms of preparing food due to over-protective parenting and increased late generation dependability. It is a serious problem that has severe side effects including shortage of funds due to an increased amount of take-aways and increased health risks due to the lack of freshly prepared food. In the coming weeks I will be publishing posts all around saving as a student in regards to food and related living costs as well as tips from students such as myself who have experienced it all before so make sure to check back regularly.
